“Smärtpunkter” is the first album by FRUSEN SORG, and was never planned to exist. Martin Sandström and Kalle Mattsson have played music together since 1995, and FRUSEN SORG started as a cathartic side project. Most of the songs were written and recorded in one single evening, as a private outlet of pent up emotions and a wish for quick and effortless songwriting. Riffs were written and combined on the spot, after 30 years of playing together songs come easy. Martin played drums and Kalle bass on live takes, Kalle wrote the lyrics while Martin recorded the guitar, the lyrics recorded immediately after, and that’s what you hear on the album. Most of it first takes, some of the vocals are the very first times Kalle sang into a microphone.
It happened by accident, but quite soon it became clear that this was a proper band, it sounded great and was an incredibly liberating experience to make the music. The plan was to mix and release on their own, but it became evident that it would be a waste to not bring a professional to work on the record. So Henrik Wikner of Studio Vinden, an old friend and previous bandmate, mixed and mastered the songs.

About:
From the basement of an old mental institution in Stockholm, Frusen Sorg – which translates to ”Frozen Grief” – makes harrowing, cathartic, desperate and crusty d-beat with black metal influences. The lyrics deal with real-life trauma instead of mythological themes. Nothing can be as dark as life itself, so no need for fairytales. Or as they put it – secular exorcism.
Formed in 2024, Sandström (Stiu Nu Stiu, Möuth, Jeniferever, Literature) and bassist/vocalist Kalle Mattsson (Stiu Nu Stiu, Literature) are regulars amidst darker musical territories. The pair has made music together since the mid 90s, and this is the most brutal and raw music they’ve made together so far. It’s a storm of broken rage, grief, and trauma, erupting through scorched vocals and relentless fingers. Musical skill giving way to brutal, raw, filterless honesty.
“We aim to tap into the most painful corners of our minds – the ugly, weak, and rotten places that have no real place in modern life,” explains bassist vocalist Kalle Mattsson”. “There is power, strength, and an awful beauty there. We bring it to the surface and record it, as it’s a valid but neglected part of us. It’s very personal, even private, but we also do it to share it with others. It’s a very human thing to do.”
”Smärtpunkter” is Frusen Sorgs first full-length album, and was preceded by the EP “Jag springer med avbrutna ben”.
